Another disappointing performance from Harriers saw them slip to an eighth consecutive defeat leaving them 16 points from safety. New signing Evan Garnett had to be content with a place on the bench alongside leading scorer Gurjit Singh while Omari Patrick was tasked with leading the attack. Harriers started the game with plenty of possession and could have taken an early lead when Arthur Gnahoua saw his shot from distance deflected upwards forcing home keeper Phil Smith into a crucial save, tipping the ball over the bar. Elton Ngwatala had two shots blocked in quick succession and Keith Lowe headed over the bar from Ben Whitfield's corner but Smith wasn't tested again as Harriers failed to take advantage of their possession. After the interval the home side were more determined and could have taken the lead two minutes after the restart; Charlie Walker's free-kick beat the defensive wall but hit his team-mate Alfie Pavey and went wide. The only goal of the game was not long in coming, however; Jared Hodgkiss was caught out on the wing and a pass through the space that he had left allowed Walker a clear run on goal before despatching a shot across Dean Snedker and inside the far corner of the net, On the hour Omar Beckles could have doubled the advantage but his header from Dan Walker's corner was held under the crossbar by Snedker. Harriers' best chance of the half fell to Whitfield when he pounced on a miscued clearance but snatched at his shot and missed the target. With twenty minutes remaining Tyrone Williams was introduced as a substitute for Hodgkiss, finally making his debut after two-and-a-half seasons in the first team squad. Garnett was later introduced to become the 40th player used by Harriers this season. |
