Harriers Edged Out In Thriller: Harriers 3-4 Southport
Harriers were brought back down to earth following their Opening Day victory with defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Southport.
In a game that swung in both directions Harriers took an early lead, fell behind, levelled the scores again before finally being edged out by the odd goal in seven.
Michael Briscoe gave Harriers a dream start volleying them in front after just four minutes but failed to build upon their early superiority and were pegged back 12 minutes before the break by a fantastic strike from Matty McNeil.
Sloppy defending allowed the same player to put the visitors ahead two minutes into the second half but a blistering drive from Nick Wright ten minutes later, his first goal for the club, restored parity. More disappointing defending saw Matty McGinn fire Southport back in front 17 minutes from the end, then a penalty by McGinn in the 84th minute put the visitors in control. Marc Williams came off the bench to score on his début with three minutes left and did have the ball in the back of the net again before the end of the game only to be ruled offside.
