Harriers Stand Firm In Sunday Thriller: Harriers 3-2 Grimsby Town

Harriers stood up to a late Grimsby onslaught to hold on to take all three points in a thrilling match and record their second home win of the week.

Following on from the midweek win over Gateshead Harriers were quick out of the blocks in an endeavour to stretch their home unbeaten run to six games.  Just four minutes were on the clock when Chris McPhee fired in the opener.

Things got even better for Harriers on ten minutes when the visitors failed to deal with a corner and Matt Blair lashed in the second goal.  Grimsby pulled a goal back just past the half hour through Rob Eagle but Blair headed in from close range to restore the two-goal advantage four minutes later.  Harriers dominated the first half with Blair in particular giving the visiting defence a torrid time.

It would have been difficult for Grimsby to have performed as badly for another 45 minutes and so it transpired; fired up after the break they threw everything forward in a desperate attempt to get back into the game, pulling another goal back through leading scorer Alan Connell with 20 minutes left.  Harriers staged a solid rearguard action to stand up to the attacks that Grimsby threw forward and withstood all that the visitors had to offer.
