FA Trophy Preview: Wrexham v Harriers
Weather permitting, there's a 10:30 pitch inspection, Harriers will attempt to put off the field problems to one side and travel to Wrexham to begin their FA Trophy campaign this afternoon.
Steve Burr will have most of his squad at his disposal, Jamille Matt is cup-tied and Mike Williams will have to miss out facing his former club as he has a foot injury that will require surgery to cure. Everybody else is available, including on-loan pair Mitchell McPike and Craig Lindfield. Harriers will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine games but will have to guard against rustiness having played just one game in the last three weeks.
Wrexham boss Dean Saunders may take the opportunity to give some of his fringe players a run-out, but like Harriers they have played just once in three weeks so he may play a stronger side to get his first choice side some much-needed game time. One player who won't feature is Andy Mangan who is suspended following his sending-off last time out against Mansfield Town. Ex-Harrier Marc Williams will be hoping to take part at some point as he is still trying to earn a new contract at The Racecourse.
Earlier this season the teams shared a 2-2 draw with Harriers fighting back from two goals down to earn a point. Harriers are unbeaten in five games against Wrexham but have only beaten them in a cup tie once, in the FA Cup in 1906.
I expect Harriers to line up as follows (4-4-2): Lewis; Vaughan, Briscoe, Sharpe, Griffiths; Hankin, Briggs, Byrne, Blair; Morris, McPhee.
Subs (from): Shaw, Albrighton, Wright, Gittings, Lindfield, Thorne, McPike, Stevens.
Missing (injured): Williams.
Missing (cup-tied): Matt.
Missing (on-loan): Hadley.
The weather this afternoon in Wrexham is forecast to be mostly cloudy with a temperature of 7°C.
