Harriers Kids Condemn Bucks: AFC Telford United 1-1 Harriers

Callum Gittings' third goal of the season earned Harriers a point and condemned Telford to relegation.

With injury and illness playing a part Gary Whild fielded a young side that included youth team players Luke Maxwell and, making his debut, Jordan Harrison in the starting line-up.  Within half-an-hour they were joined by Kennedy Digie who came on for the injured Aman Verma.

With the hosts knowing that only a victory was enough to prolong their season they began the game the brighter of the two teams.  Midway through the half Adam Farrell saw his 25 yard free-kick beat the wall but it was hit straight at Danny Lewis.

Six minutes before the interval Harrison had the ball in the net, turning in Danny Wright's knock down from Jared Hodgkiss's deep left wing free-kick but the linesman's flag ruled the goal out for offside.

Early in the second half Jake Green could have given Harriers the lead but just as he was about to get his shot away he was tackled by former Harrier Sean Clancy.  United took the lead on the hour; Farrell making a strong run on the right from midfield, holding off Hodgkiss, and crossed to the hear post where it was headed in by Tony Gray.

Harriers had the bulk of possession despite being behind but every time that they got through the United defence goalkeeper James Montgomery was on top form to keep them out.  Fifteen minutes from the end Jamie Grimes went close with a free-kick that beat the wall and the crossbar but moments later Harriers were level when Gittings pounced on a mistake by Clancy to carry the ball into the penalty area before slotting it past Montgomery.

In stoppage time another free-kick from Farrell almost kept United hopes alive but his shot was punched away by Lewis.  Harriers ended the game with ten men as Digie was lost to a facial injury after a United player landed on him.
