Third Place Sealed In County Cup: Evesham United 0-6 Harriers Reserves

Harriers' youngsters romped to a comfortable victory at Evesham to take third place in the Worcestershire Senior Cup.

Gurjit Singh needed just 52 seconds to give Harriers the lead, recording his first goal in a Harriers shirt, pouncing on a poor back-pass to take the ball round former Harriers youth team keeper Josh Goddard and roll it into the empty net.

Alex Palmer was making his first appearance of the summer in Harriers' goal and was called into action early to tip a shot from Zac Kotwica over the bar but apart from that early threat from the hosts the first half was all Harriers.

Singh could have doubled the advantage on 12 minutes but his shot was pushed onto the bar by Goddard and scrambled away for a corner.  The second goal came just past the half-hour mark; Reece Hales' pass through the inside-left channel set up Singh who cut inside the fullback before stroking his shot past Goddard.

The third goal came from trialist fullback Ben O'Hanlon who picked up the ball deep before advancing on goal and unleashing a dipping, swerving, shot from distance that had Goddard grasping at thin air as it whistled past him.  Just before the break Harriers made it 4-0 when Luke Maxwell's shot hit Dan Sweeney and rolled into the net.

After the break Harriers continued to dominate with Hales, revelling in a midfield role, going close to adding a fifth with a lob the was just a fraction too high and landed on the roof of the net.  Hales was then denied by a good save by Goddard after Maxwell's pass had set him clear on the right.

A mistake by Goddard gifted Harriers their next goal; his miscued clearance hit Singh and rebound back into the unguarded goal.  Midway through the half Goddard went some way to redeeming himself for the earlier mistake with a fine double save to deny first George Cater and then Jordan Harrison.

Minutes later O'Hanlon, who had switched from left back to right back with the introduction of James Hancocks, was allowed to run at the heart of the home defence before passing to Harrison who in turn found Cater who rolled the ball back into the path of the impressive O'Hanlon who curled a shot beyond the reach of Goddard to record his second and complete the rout.
