Young Harriers Out Of Youth Cup: AFC Telford Youth 2-1 Harriers Youth

There was disappointment for Harriers' juniors at The New Buck's Head as they were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup.

Harriers had been on top in the early stages and deservedly took the lead in the 16th minute when great work by Matt Tubb on the right wing, keeping the ball in play and crossing low to the far post, led to an easy tap in for Dan Sweeney.

The home side gave Harriers a warning that they should have made more of their early possession when Ryan McLean went close with a shot from just outside the penalty area five minutes before the interval, and, after Sweeney's cross had evaded George Taylor at the other end, Brandon Taylor fizzed a 35-yard effort just past Keelan Monger's right-hand post.

Barely two minutes into the second half Telford drew level; Harriers failed to deal with the loose ball after Owen Taylor had risen at the far post to meet a corner from the right only for his header to be parried by Monger and Reis Mahey was on hand to stab the ball home from close range.

As the game wore on Harriers had chances to regain the lead; Taylor went close with a chip over the keeper's head after being set up by James Hancocks on the hour and Matt Evans hit a free-kick through the wall straight at Mitchell Wildigg in the home goal with 20 minutes remaining.

The longer the game went on the more United grew in confidence and the more feisty the game became.  With little over ten minutes to go a foul on Hancocks by Mahey led to a scuffle that saw six players - four from Telford and two from Harriers - have their names taken by the referee.

With extra-time looming large in the 90th minute a long ball out of defence by Telford was knocked down into the path of McLean who lashed a 25-yard shot past Monger and into the bottom corner of the net to win the game for the hosts and set up a local derby for them in the First Round at Shrewsbury Town.
