Pre-Season Ends In Defeat: Harriers 0-4 Birmingham City

Harriers' youngsters were no match for a strong Birmingham City side who ran out as comfortable winners.

With the start of the season proper looming large Harriers included just one player in the starting line-up who has any first team appearances to his name in Jared Hodgkiss who continued his recovery from injury.

City took the lead after just two-and-a-half minutes; Jack Storer with an accomplished finish following a neat interchange of passes that carved the Harriers defence open.

Just six minutes later Birmingham doubled their advantage, Andrew Shinnie finishing with a low shot the Jono Brown in the Harriers goal, celebrating signing a new contract earlier in the day, will have been disappointed not to have done better in his attempt to keep it out.

Liam Truslove, a former Blue, fired a 25-yard free-kick over the bar as Harriers' best chance of the half.  At the other end James Vaughan increased City's lead further after 33 minutes bundling the ball in from close range after his initial shot had been parried by Brown.

After the break Harriers managed to stem the flow of goals somewhat but were architects of their own downfall for Birmingham's fourth goal on 66 minutes.  Trialist Michael Onovwigun passed straight to an opposing player who fed it to Storer curled a shot over Brown into the the top corner.
