Villa Too Strong For Harriers: Harriers 0-3 Aston Villa
Harriers gave a good account of themselves but Championship side Villa were ultimately too strong.
The former European Champions sent a mixed side, including experienced heads such as Alan Hutton and Micah Richards along with former Harriers loanee Kevin Toner and one-time Harriers trialist Scott Hogan.
Harriers matched their visitors in the opening exchanges but Villa took the lead after nine minutes when Conor Hourihane fired through a crowded penalty area. The visitors doubled their advantage on the half-hour when James Chester was allowed a free-header in the penalty area from a free-kick.
At the interval Harriers made a number of changes, bringing on several trialists, and managed to prevent Villa from adding to their advantage for much of their half. Poor finishing cost Harriers a chance of getting back into the match with only one shot from a trialist forcing a save from Mark Bunn in the Villa goal.
Villa completed the scoring eight minutes from the end when Harry McKirdy forced the ball in from close range after evading his marker to meet a cross from the right.
