Harriers Edge Through In Cup: Newcastle Benfield 0-1 Harriers
Joe Ironside's goal at Sam Smith's Park was enough to send Harriers through to the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.
The home side, though, gave a good account of themselves with experienced striker Paul Brayson to the fore; his free-kick on 17 minutes nearly gave them the lead but Brandon Hall was able to hold on.
Harriers had the best of the possession and the chances and with better finishing could have been well clear by the interval. Ryan Croasdale, Declan Weeks, Andre Brown and Ironside all wasted good chances while home keeper Andrew Grainger was on good form to keep out Elton Ngwatala, Ironside and Manny Sonupe as well as pushing a stoppage time sliced clearance from his own defender away for a corner.
Straight after the break Joel Taylor crossed well for Brown who headed onto the roof of the net and five minutes later Ironside's header from Sonupe's cross was saved by Grainger. As Harriers took control of the match Ngwatala's free kick beat the wall but was kept out by Grainger yet again.
The winning goal came midway through the half, substitute Andre Wright got to the byline on the right and pulled the ball back for Ironside to turn in from close range to record his fifth goal of the season.
Newcastle thought they had an equaliser eleven minutes from the end; a cross from deep on the left wing by James Novak was met at the far post by Brayson who forced it into the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Harriers then managed to see out the rest of the game untroubled and make it through to the 4th Qualifying Round for the thirteenth season in a row.
