Derby Disappointment For Harriers: AFC Telford United 2-0 Harriers

A goal in each half at The New Buck's Head sent Harriers to their first defeat of the new season.

Unchanged from their Opening Day draw with Leamington Harriers started the game brightly and could have taken the lead inside the first couple of minutes when skipper Cliff Moyo rose to meet Declan Weeks' corner but headed over the bar.

Harriers looked the likeliest to score in the opening exchanges and Weeks was involved again midway through the half; his pass set Sam Austin away who crafted an opening for Ed Williams who saw his shot saved by Corey Addai in the home goal.

United took the lead in the 28th minute; Harriers failed to deal with Chris Lait's deep cross from the right, a poor clearance dropped invitingly for former Harrier Darryl Knights who drilled it low through a crowded penalty area into the bottom corner of the net.

There could have been an equaliser before the break; Austin and Moyo combined on the right with the latter's cross being headed wide across goal by Ashley Chambers.

After the interval Harriers failed to impose themselves on the game and after Milan Butterfield and Austin had created another chance for Chambers who headed over the bar it was the home team who gradually took control.  The second goal came after 65 minutes when Aaron Williams was allowed to squirm his way into the penalty area on the left, Harriers missing a number of opportunities to clear, and fire past Cameron Gregory from a narrow angle.

In stoppage time Harriers had a chance to pull a goal back with a 25 yard free-kick but Ed Williams' effort was tame and easy for Addai to take.
