First Win For Harriers: Bradford Park Avenue 0-3 Harriers
Harriers overcame difficult conditions to record their first win of the season at bottom club Bradford.
Making one change to the side that had lost at Telford in midweek, bringing in Richard Peniket in attack in place of Alex Prosser, Harriers were quickly on the front foot, pressing against a Bradford side reeling from consecutive 5-0 defeats in their opening two matches.
There were just 13 minutes on the clock when Harriers took the lead; Peniket received the ball on the right and played it inside to Chambers who quickly switched the play to the opposite flank where Correy Davidson was advancing, he took the ball in his stride and despatched it low past the dive of Charlie Andrews in the home goal to record his first goal for the club.
After Ben Hedley had forced Cameron Gregory into action with a 25-yard free-kick Harriers went close again. A Declan Weeks corner from the right found the head of Ryan Johnson but he could only direct the ball wide of the far post. Six minutes before the break Harriers grabbed the crucial second goal; again a Weeks corner from the right, this time headed on by a Bradford defender, reached Rhys Williams at the far post who headed into the top corner for his first Harriers goal.
After the break the home side came into the game more with the wind at their backs but it was still Harriers who looked the most dangerous. Just past the hour mark they had the ball in the net again through Peniket but his strike was ruled out for offside. Shortly afterwards Weeks' pass set p Chmbers but he saw his shot tipped over the bar by Andrews.
Harriers finally wrapped up the game with three minutes left; Ed Williams' pass over the inside-right channel set Chambers clear who took his time to set himself up before slotting the ball past Andrews for his second goal of the season.
