Ladies Begin Cup Defence In Style: Harriers Ladies 10-0 Redditch Borough Ladies

County Cup holders Harriers cruised into the second round with a comfortable win over Redditch Borough at Lea Castle.

The two sides met at the same stage of the competition last season with Harriers coming out on top 7-2.  A similar scoreline was on the cards early on as Harriers needed just 36 seconds to take the lead Amie Savva racing away on the left to slot the ball past Philippa Kindred in the Redditch goal.

Alex Nicklin had the ball in the net in the 11th minutes after a good run and cross by Katie Priest on the right but the goal was ruled out by a questionable offside decision.  A second goal was not long in coming, however, as Savva managed to beat the offside trap and race clear before firing across the keeper and inside the far post.

Harriers were in complete control of the game already and a third goal arrived on 18 minutes when Amy Plimmer attacked on the left before picking out Sophie Richards in acres of space to slot the ball into the bottom corner.  After Savva had fired wide across the face of goal from a Shannon Roche pass Plimmer then set up the fourth for Nicklin.

Plimmer then got her own name on the score-sheet after 24 minutes; Nicklin won the ball on the right near half way and made a strong run on the wing before crossing to the far post where Plimmer arrived late to fire past Kindred.

After the break Harriers continued to dominate and scored a sixth goal after 53 minutes; Savva's deep cross from the right was knocked down by Bailey-Raine Hodge and bundled in by Katie Priest.  Just past the hour mark Savva could have wrapped up her hat-trick when she beat the offside trap but the keeper stood up well and blocked the shot.

Substitute Hodge added the seventh midway through the half, much to the delight of the visiting Norwegian Harriers fans, nudging the ball past the keeper and then hooking it into the net.  Six minutes later she grabbed her second; Kirsty Roberts did well to chase down a loose ball on the left before tolling it back to Hodge who curled it in to the far corner.

Savva had another good chance for her third on 77 minutes but this time lobbed her shot over the bar.  Moments later, though, Mia Badland added the ninth with a near post shot from a ball in from the right and then in stoppage time Roberts completed the rout firing in from a narrow angle on the right after beating the offside trap.
