Goalless In Cup: Harriers 0-0 Stafford Rangers

Harriers must travel to Marston Road on Tuesday after being held by Stafford Rangers in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round.

The visitors, who have yet to win a league game this season, came to Aggborough with a plan to frustrate the home side and it was largely successful.  Harriers, showing one change from the side that had beaten Altrincham - Harry Higginson coming in for Ryan Johnson, dominated possession and hald all of the best chances but could not break down the resolute Rangers defence.

In the early stages Stafford were forced into desperate defending; Lewis King quickly called into action to save Ashley Chambers' header from Correy Davidson's cross and from a Sam Austin cross Richard Peniket had his header blocked by a defender.

At the other end Tom Palmer was able to gather easily from Joe Berks shot, what turned out to be the visitors' only shot of the half.  As the half wore on Harriers felt that they should have had a penalty when King took out Davidson but the referee waved play on.  An Alex Prosser cross from the right found Chambers beyond the far post but his volley hit the post and then in the last minute of the half Davidson set up Ed Williams who saw his shot tipped over the bar.

The second half was a dour event; Harriers continued to dominate the game with Lewis forced into action again to keep out Austin and substitute Ollie Shenton.  Harriers were almost caught out, however, after 72 minutes when there was a scramble in the goalmouth with Jed Davies seeing his shot hit Rhys Williams and Palmer just managing to grab the loose ball before it reached the goalline.
