Match Report by St@tto

Iyseden Christie's 73rd minute strike was enough to take the points for Harriers and send them home with a second successive victory for the first time since beating Scarborough and Bradford City in December 2005.

Following on from the midweek win over Southport Mark Yates named an unchanged starting line-up with the only change on the bench being the return of fit again Jamie McClen in place of Scott Eaton.  The performance was unchanged from the previous game also with Harriers working hard from the start to prevent Morecambe from playing their normal game.

After an early scare where Fraser McLachlan was left unmarked at a corner but shot straight at Scott Bevan Harriers began to exert themselves and the game start to ebb and flow from end to end.  Morecambe had an even better chance to open the scoring; David McNiven broke through the inside-left channel and squared the ball to Garry Thompson at the far post who blasted over the bar with an open goal at his mercy.

Harriers started to turn their possession into chances and a long ball from Gavin Hurren picked out Christie on the right who knocked the ball into the path of Simon Russell who stabbed his shot wide.  Shortly afterwards another Hurren pass set Russell clear on goal but Steven Drench was quick off his line to block Russell's effort at the expense of a corner.

Morecambe began the second half in lively fashion and McNiven went close with a diving header that Bevan did well to push around the post.  Harriers had the ball in the net after 68 minutes; Russ Penn took a quick free-kick that found substitute Michael Blackwood on the left, his low cross was turned in by Christie from close range but the goal was disallowed for offside.  The disappointment was short-lived, however, as five minutes later Penn chipped another free-kick forward which was flicked on by Hurren and stabbed in by Christie from inside the six-yard box.

Late on a Brian Smikle run on the right wing opened up the home defence and set up an opportunity for Penn but his shot went narrowly wide of the near post.  At the death morecambe had one last chance to grab a point that they would not have deserved when McLachlan lofted the ball forward to left winger Matt Shaw who headed straight at Bevan at the far post.
