Match Report by St@tto

Harriers stretched their winning league run to four games, the first time since November 2001 that they have achieved the feat, thanks to Luke Reynolds' late strike after coming off the bench moments earlier.

The team was the same as had ground out a victory over Stafford on Boxing Day and with driving rain creating another heavy pitch they had to dig in and give a similar performance.  Without really troubling the home defence Harriers were quicker to adapt to the conditions and Michael Blackwood was quite lively on the wing even though the ball wouldn't run on the wet surface.

James Constable was involved in some of Harriers' best opportunities of the first half; he made a good run into the penalty area but was denied by a well-timed tackle from Kevin Lee who had tracked back with him and then he headed Jonny Harkness' left-wing corner wide of the far post.

When Southport got into the Harriers penalty area they were let down by striker Dino Maamria who fell over too easily, ten minutes before the break he was booked for diving.  The last decent chance of the half fell to Harriers; Iyseden Christie, on his last appearance before his loan ended, set up Blackwood who shot straight at Southport's sub keeper Paul Harrison who was on for Francois Dubourdeau who had been injured in a challenge with Constable.

Six minutes after the break Maamria was pushed as he went for Ciaran Doherty's cross from the left and this time the referee pointed to the penalty spot.  Maamria himself took the penalty but Scott Bevan dived to his right to keep it out.  Southport were now having their best spell of the game and a searching long ball from Carl Baker set Maamria clear but Bevan saved at his feet.  With 15 minutes left Baker picked up the ball on the right, cut inside and hit a shot towards the top corner that Bevan saved.

Harriers won the game with six minutes left.  Blackwood jinked his way into the penalty area and fell theatrically under the challenge of Daniel Kirkup; even though the referee waved play on the Southport defence stood still and Christie reacted quickest, playing the ball to sub Luke Reynolds who had been on the field for just 98 seconds and turned and lashed the ball into the roof of the net.  Moments later the home team had the ball in the net, Paul Tait heading in Baker's corner, but he was offside and the goal did not stand.
