Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' unbeaten run now stands at ten games, nine of them victories, after an efficient display in a dour game saw off Stafford for the second time in a month.

With Iyseden Christie not overcoming the calf strain that he picked up in the game against York at the weekend Andy White came into the side for his first start since November 11.  Russ Penn and Gavin Hurren had both gone close to opening the scoring in the opening stages before White picked out Simon Russell with a searching crossfield pass that allowed the winger to cut inside from the right flank and hit a low shot that took a wicked deflection off Craig McAughtrie to beat Danny Alcock and put Harriers ahead after just nine minutes.

The near-freezing conditions that had left the pitch bone hard in places didn't help the quality of the game.  The opening half became quite dour with little to excite the crowd.  Harriers were in control but Stafford looked capable of getting back into the game on a couple of occasions. Jut beyond the half-hour mark Russell could have doubled the advantage when Jeff Kenna's throw picked him out but he fired high and wide.  Late in the half Kenna himself came close to adding to the score with a 25-yard free-kick that went narrowly over the bar.

Harriers gave themselves a cushion seven minutes into the second half; James Constable received the ball from the left wing and knocked it back into the path of Penn, playing his last game before suspension, who hit a bullet of a shot from 25 yards out the had alcock grasping at air as it whizzed past him.

As in the first half, the second was dour and lacking in excitement.  It was not until the 71st minute that there was any more significant action; Brian Smikle, on for Russell, got free on the right and his inch-perfect low cross to the far post found constable who somehow managed to fire over the bar from 3 yards out.  In the closing minutes the visitors had two good chances to get themselves back into the game but as is the way with teams high on confidence, the luck was with Harriers.  Danny Edwards beat Bevan to a high cross and his looping header was cleared off the line by Stuart Whitehead and then in the last minute bevan's poor punch fell to Craig Lovatt whose lob was headed from under the bar by Michael Blackwood.
