Match Report by St@tto

Harriers recorded their second win in a row, the first time that they had managed it in league games since beating Rushden and Exeter at the end of August.

Unchanged from the side that trounced Stafford in midweek Harriers continued where they had left off in that game playing good football with plenty of passing and movement, all that was missing was better finishing to convert their domination into more goals than the one that they managed.  As early as the seventh minute they could, maybe should, have taken the lead; Dean Bennett's through ball beat the offside trap and let in Iyseden Christie, his shot was blocked and Matthew Barnes-Homer's follow-up shot was saved by Ross Flitney in the Grays goal.

Midway through the half Christie's intervention knocked the ball to Simon Russell on the left; his cross to the far post was met by Russ Penn who headed back across the face of goal and narrowly wide of Flitney's right-hand post.  The opening goal came shortly afterwards; Christie played the ball in from the left to Darryl Knights who drilled a low shot past Flitney from beyond 20-yards out.  Before the break Knights could have doubled the advantage but his lob was cleared off the line by Jamie Stuart at the expense of a corner.

After the break Harriers continued to dominate possession but couldn't convert it into goals.  Twice Russell was denied by Flitney but the best chance fell to Penn fifteen minutes from the end.  Set up by Barnes-Homer after a good run and cross on the left wing he blasted his shot over the bar from close range.

Nine minutes from the end the lively Russell set up Christie with a pass through the inside-left channel but he mis-hit his shot wide of the far post although it took a deflection and earned a corner.  The visitors never troubled Chris macKenzie in the Harriers goal who kept his second clean sheet in a row.  Poor finishing from Grays, also, kept the score down; Jamie Taylor and substitute Aaron O'Connor both had two chances in the second half and missed the target on both occasions.
