Match Report by St@tto

Harriers gave a disappointing performance that didn't fit in with their endeavours of recent matches and were soundly beaten by an AFC Wimbledon team making its first visit to Aggborough.

New signing Damian Spencer was chosen to make his debut ahead of Ryan Charles alongside Robbie Matthews in the wake of the departure of leading scorer Matthew Barnes-Homer.  Liam Dolman came in for just his second start of the season in place of the ill Duane Courtney.

A scrappy opening to the game saw neither side come to light until the 20th minute when the visitors took the lead; Danny Kedwell raced on to a through ball from Ricky Wellard and forced Gavin Caines into a mistake that left Dean Coleman stranded allowing the striker to take the ball around him and roll it into the empty net.

Shortly afterwards Spence went close to opening his Harriers goalscoring account but headed over from Danny Andrew's left-wing free-kick.  The closest Harriers came to leveling the scores in the first half was just before the half-hour mark when Matthews flicked on a long ball to Brian Smikle who hit his shot straight at Seb Brown in the visitors' goal.  In stoppage time Caines went some way towards atoning for his earlier mistake by blocking Lewis Taylor's goalbound header.

After the break Harriers were no better and could not get into their stride, their form from victories over Oxford and Kettering seeming a distant memory as they struggled to string passes together and were generally second-best all over the park.  There was not a lot of excitement to the game at either end, although Wimbledon didn't need there to be as they were comfortable in their narrow lead.

Dolman made a surging run through the inside-right channel before cutting in and hitting a 20-yard shot straight at the keeper for Harriers' only on-target effort of the second half after 49 minutes.  Ten minutes later the deficit could have been worse; Kedwell cross from the right and picked out substitute Jon Main who headed weakly at Coleman.

In the closing stages of the game Martin Riley headed over from an Andrew corner as Harriers huffed and puffed vainly in search of an equaliser but it was the visitors who looked most likely to add to the score with Main hitting a 25-yard effort narrowly over the bar with just four minutes left.  Even with a defender sacrificed for a third striker for the last few minutes Harriers didn't look like getting back into the game and will have to hope that this result was just a minor setback that they will have quick opportunity to put right with the visit of Tamworth on Tuesday.  They will, however, have to do without Matthews who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and will be suspended for that game.
