Match Report by St@tto

Harriers slumped to defeat at Stevenage for the third season in a row and stretched their unwanted winless streak to four games.

Robbie Matthews returned to the side after suspension, his stand-in Ryan Charles dropped down to the bench, and Dean Bennett came back in in place of John Finnigan.

Harriers started brightly and could have taken an early lead had David McDermott's 20-yard shot not hit the crossbar.  There were chances, too, for Damian Spencer and Chris McPhee but they were both denied by Borough keeper Chris Day.

After withstanding Harriers' early pressure Stevenage took the lead eight minutes before the break; Ronnie Henry punted a free-kick forward into the penalty area where Jon Ashton met it to head beyond Dean Coleman.

The home team needed just 32 seconds of the second half to double their advantage and put the game out of Harriers' reach.  Harriers lost possession from the kick-off allowing borough to get the ball forward quickly, David Bridges helping it on into the path of Mitchell Cole in the inside-left channel who despatched his shot across Coleman and inside the far post.

Stevenage were stronger all over the pitch and stopped Harriers from getting into their stride and playing their normal passing game.  Harriers were restricted to shots from distance; a 25-yard free-kick from Danny Andrew flew narrowly over the bar midway through the half.

At the other end Stevenage went close again shortly afterwards with an Andy Drury corner from the right being headed wide of the far post by Bridges.  Harriers made changes, bringing on Charles and, soon afterwards, Aaron Farrell in an attempt to break the home team down but the closets they came was fifteen minutes from time when Brian Smikle's pass set up Farrell on the right who shot wide of the far post.

Stevenage were comfortably in control of the game and were able to see out the rest of the match without incident, leaving Harriers disappointingly beaten and now 316 minutes without scoring a goal.
