Referee: Stephen Martin (Staffordshire) |
Harriers left it late again to save themselves from defeat, Steve Guinan's 92nd minute goal - his tenth of the season - getting them out of jail after they struggled to break down visitors Lincoln City. Despite dominating possession for the majority of the match Harriers, who introduced Marvin Johnson for his debut and had latest new signing Ryan Rowe on the bench, rarely troubled Joe Anyon in the City goal. The opening minutes were all Harriers but they had nothing to show for it until the 13th minute when Dan Bradley's shot from 25 yards took a deflection and was heading to the top corner until Anyon pulled off a fantastic save to keep it out and push it away for a corner which came to nothing. Harriers began to build pressure and five minutes later Johnson and Lee Vaughan combined on the right wing, the latter crossing for Bradley whose header hit Josh Gowling and was cleared; moments later Johnson's cross from deep on the right was headed wide of the near post by leading scorer Jamille Matt. In the 20th minute City took the lead against the run of play. Awarded a free-kick on the left they were gifted the goal as Jefferson Louis was left completely unmarked to head in at the far post from Louis Almond's cross. The goal knocked Harriers out of their stride and the game became increasingly scrappy; Lincoln didn't threaten at all and the closest Harriers came was Nick Wright's header over the bar from Vaughan's right-wing cross. Just before the interval Johnson limped out of the game with an ankle injury to be replaced by Rowe. After the break the game continued to be scrappy. Harriers still had more of the possession but the game became bogged down in midfield as The Imps seemed content to sit on their lead hoping to hold on to a rare victory. On the hour mark Kyle Storer went close but his long-range shot went wide of the far post and eight minutes later Wright had the ball in the net but he had pushed Peter Bore out of the way before heading in and the goal was ruled out. With just three minutes remaining Harriers made a double switch, James Vincent and Guinan coming on for Storer and Matt. Harriers pressed forward and two minutes into stoppage time Guinan pounced on the ball in the penalty area and drilled it low to the far post beyond Anyon to save Harriers' blushes. |
