Match Report by St@tto

Two goals from James Dance - his first for the club - gave Harriers the victory that ended their two-game losing streak.

Steve Burr made a number of changes to the team that had been beaten by Luton, bringing in Nathan Vaughan for his first action of the season, James Dance for his first start and Danny Jackman.

Harriers took the lead after just ten minutes; Michael Gash won the ball on the edge of the penalty area and combined with Anthony Malbon who fed the ball out to Dance on the right and he lashed his shot past Lee Butcher in the home goal and inside the far post.

Malbon could have doubled the advantage after being put in by Gash in the inside left channel but fired narrowly wide after 15 minutes.  The second goal wasn't far behind, though, Kyle Storer's pass sending Lee Vaughan away on the right, his cross to the far post headed in by an unmarked Dance.

Harriers continued to dominate the first half and could have had a third just past the half-hour mark when Josh Gowling got up to meet Storer's corner from the right but his header was cleared off the line by Jack Obersteller.

After the break Harriers pressed for a third goal; just before the hour Lee Vaughan made another strong run forward but saw his shot from outside the penalty area saved by Butcher.  Ten minutes later Lee Fowler spotted Butcher off his line and tried to beat him with an audacious lob from deep in midfield but the keeper managed to scramble back and keep the ball out.

Welling were in no mood to surrender an unbeaten home record that stretched back for 50 games and finally got going and got themselves back into the game with ten minutes remaining; substitute Loui Fazackerley firing into the bottom corner after being set up by Ross Lafayette.

Harriers could have made the game safe had Chey Dunkley's header from Storer's corner not been cleared off the line.  Five minutes from the end Harriers were almost made to pay for their missed chances when Kurtis Guthrie was allowed a free header but Nathan Vaughan got across to save and from then on United's challenge was over and Harriers were able to see out time.
