Match Report by St@tto

Jack Byrne's fourth goal of the season late in the second half rescued a point for Harriers and stretched their unbeaten run to five games.

Southport, who have won only once away from home all season, looked set for their first such victory since August thanks to a gritty performance that had seen them stop Harriers from playing until Byrne popped up 14 minutes from the end.

For the most part the game had been a poor spectacle with little in the way of clear cut goalscoring chances for either side.

Jamie Grimes headed wide from an early Callum Gittings corner but it was City who took the lead - Danny Hattersley mis-hitting his shot from close range after being set up by John O'Sullivan on 27 minutes.

After the break Byrne looked to be Harriers' most likely source of an equaliser with two long-range efforts that missed the target before he grabbed the equaliser.  After Anthony Malbon had chased down a loose ballon the left wing Mickey Demetriou's cross was flapped at by Danny Hurst in the 'Port goal and fell to Byrne 25 yards out.

In stoppage time the visitors could have snatched a winner but Karl Ledsham's hot hit the inside of Danny Lewis's left-hand post and rebounded to safety.
