Harriers suffered their first defeat under Gary Whild, ironically giving their best performance in the process. Play-Off chasing Grimsby recorded their fourth away win in a row thanks to Alex Rodman's first half strike, at the same time notching their first Conference win at Aggborough. While was forced into a number of changes to the team thanks to injury and suspension; with Kyle storer and Callum Gittings both banned and Danny Jackman injured in came Chey Dunkley, Josh O'Keefe and Nick Wright. The Mariners gave Harriers an early scare when Paddy McLaughlin's free-kick, which had been a whisker away from being a penalty, beat the wall and hit the crossbar. At the other end Harriers threatened with O'Keefe's pass finding Amari Morgan-Smith who set up Michael Gash who fired over the bar. The visitors took the lead on 19 minutes out of the blue. Rodman received the ball 25 yards out from goal and, spotting Danny Lewis off his line, lofted a delicate chip over the keeper and just under the bar. Harriers should have had an equaliser 12 minutes before the break; Gash and Wright combined on the right with the latter's cross finding Amari'i Bell who saw his goalbound header pushed onto the post by Town keeper James McKeown who then was grateful to see the ball rebound to him. After the break Harriers dominated the possession, and looked dangerous each time they came forward, at least until they got close to the Town penalty area, but didn't threaten McKeown enough. O'Keefe went close to an equaliser midway through the half, picking up Gash's knock-down his 30 yard half-volley was just a an inch or two over the bar. With time running out substitute Adrian Cieslewicz received a pass from Nathan Blissett in space on the right of the penalty area but his shot was blocked on the line by Craig Disley before Aman Verma could connect with it. |
