Match Report by St@tto

Gary Whild handed debuts to five new players in his first team selection of the season; the first possible surprise being the inclusion of Dean Snedker in goal instead of Alex Palmer, while Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, Joe Clarke, Andre Wright and Adam Dawson also made their first appearances.

After Harriers had had an early opportunity to open the scoring when Luke Maxwell drove his shot straight at James McKeown in the Grimsby goal the visitors called Snedker into action for the first time.  Padraig Amond sprung the offside trap and broke clear on the left but the keeper bided his time and made a good save from Amond's shot.

Just past the half-hour mark Nathan Arnold tested Snedker with a 25-yard free-kick that beat the wall but was easy for the keeper to gather in.  Moments later Town attacked on the right Arnold broke into the penalty area before rolling the ball square to Amond who had the goal at his mercy but was denied by a great block from Kelvin Langmead.

Town were getting on top by now and soon afterwards the high defensive line that the Harriers were using got them into trouble again when the offside trap was once more beaten and Arnold got free but was denied, twice, by Man-of-the-Match Snedker.  Just before the break the visitors beat the offside trap again but this time when Amond broke clear he was able to pick his spot beyond Snedker's reach.

Harriers changed things around at the break, pushing Wright up front alongside Reece Styche and moving Maxwell out wide to match Grimsby's formation.  Rather than the change of tactics it was an error by Town keeper James McKeown that gifted Harriers the leveller on the hour; he miscued a clearance straight to Styche who rolled the ball into the empty net, and then was booked as a result of his celebration in front of the visitors' bench.

The scores were not level for very long; Town regained the lead on 67 minutes when Harriers failed to clear a corner from the left, Aristote Nsiala heading the ball back into the goalmouth where it was hooked in from close range by Andy Monkhouse.

Grimsby seemed content to sit on their lead once they had regained it and allowed Harriers back into the game.  On 73 minutes Clarke went close with a shot from long range that whistled narrowly wide of the post and shortly afterwards a good passing move ended with Verma slipping the ball to Styche who saw his chip from the edge of the penalty area held by McKeown.

With just three minutes to go Styche got to the byline on the right and made a low cross into the goalmouth that was just ahead of Craig Reid.  Deep into stoppage time Harriers finally grabbed their second equaliser; Tahvon Campbell, on as a sub for Maxwell, fed the ball back to Jared Hodgkiss on the right and his cross to the far post where Verma climbed highest to send a looping header back across goal over McKeown and into the back of the net to silence the massed travelling support from Grimsby who were already celebrating victory.
