Match Report by St@tto

Harriers remain rooted to the foot of the league after suffering their first-ever home defeat to Braintree.

Throughout the game Harriers were lacklustre and finished the match with ten men following the dismissal of Luke Maxwell.

In a scrappy opening period Harriers, showing two changes from the side that had drawn at Tranmere in the previous game, were given an early let off when a clumsy challenge from Aman Verma in the penalty area was ignored by the referee.

Ten minutes before the break Town could have gone in front but Dan Sparkes' far post header from the impressive Simeon Akinola's right wing cross was straight at Alex Palmer in the Harriers goal.  The visitors took the lead two minutes before the interval; another clumsy challenge in the penalty area this time by Lathaniel Rowe-Turner on Chez Isaac allowed Kenny Davis to send Palmer the wrong way from the penalty spot.

After the break Harriers enjoyed good spells of possession but the visitors were comfortable in their lead with Will Norris in their goal rarely threatened and not really tested.  Sparkes could have doubled the visitors' lead just before the hour; a pass through inside left opened up the Harriers defence to set him free but his shot hit Palmer's right-hand post.

Midway through the half Norris was tested, Adam Dawson and Jared Hodgkiss combined on the right with the latter's cross finding Tahvon Campbell but his shot was saved.  The always dangerous Akinola, meanwhile, made a strong run holding off Andrew Fox but his shot was well saved by Palmer.

Harriers pressed to get back into the game and with 15 minutes remaining Verma's pass set up Reece Styche but the ball got away from him just as he was attempting to take it round 'keeper Norris.  Shortly afterwards a Maxwell free-kick was going wide but Norris saved it to concede a corner, but Harriers were unable to capitalise.

Eight minutes from time Harriers lost Maxwell, sent-off for a heavy challenge on Alex Woodyard who was also sent off for making gestures towards the home supporters.  Even though Harriers sacrificed a defender to bolster the midfield to continue their search for a way back into the game the visitors were able to easily see out the remainder of the game to take the points.
