Match Report by St@tto

Ben Whitfield's sixth goal of the season gave Harriers a 1-0 victory and postponed their relegation from the National League for a few more days.

With three games remaining Harriers are still eight points from safety and now The Shaymen are the only side outside the relegation zone that they can catch.  Victory over Halifax lifted Harriers off the foot of the table and above Welling United but in order for Harriers to prolong their stay in the league they need all three of the teams above them to lose the rest of their games while winning their own final three.

Dean Snedker was returned to the starting line-up with Max O'Leaary set to return to parent club Bristol City because of injuries at Ashton Gate while youngster Dan Sweeney who had himself been recalled from loan was introduced on the bench in place of Evan Garnett.

As is becoming usual Harriers enjoyed plenty of possession without really doing anything with it in a fairly even opening to the game.  Despite the relative positions of the teams in the league the match was quite open; Elton Ngwatala had a shot saved in the second minute and 20 minutes in Jake Hibbs saw his 25-yard free-kick beat the wall but not Snedker who held on to it as it headed towards the top corner.

Harriers took the lead three minutes into the second half; the visitors had blocked a Harriers attack and the ball came to Lewis Kinsella in the middle of the field who sprayed an excellent pass to Whitfield on the left wing, he took one touch to control and cut inside into the penalty area and tucked his shot inside the near post to record his sixth goal of the season making him the club's leading scorer.

Just ahead of the hour mark Sweeney was introduced for his debut and looked lively from the off.  On 65 minutes his pace forced Hamza Bencherif into a clumsy challenge in the penalty area earning Harriers a penalty.  Ngwatala took the spot-kick but never looked confident and his shot was saved easily by San Johnson who was then quickest to pounce on the loose ball.

In the closing stages Harriers could have increased their lead further when substitute Omari Patrick was sent clear on the left but rolled his shot across the face of goal and narrowly wide of the far post.
